Traditionally, new parents were cared for by their families and friends after the arrival of a new baby. In our modern society many families live far from one another and this support for new parents is not always available. A postpartum doula can fill this role and provide the non-medical care and support that was customary in cultures throughout history. The quiet and reassuring presence of a postpartum doula can help make the transition to parenthood a bit easier.
